Introduction to Family History

This one to one and a half hr. presentation introduces the  basic fundamentals  of genealogy, along with common myths of the field and how to get started right away on tracing ancestors.


Introduction to Jewish Genealogy

Along with introducing basic fundamentals of doing family history, there will be an overview of myths of Jewish genealogy, and some sources and records unique to discovering Jewish ancestors.


Family History Basics

This class covers a variety of topics that will help you create an accurate and comprehensive family history. Under the categories of records, techniques and organization, we’ll learn about census and vital records, newspapers, databases, documenting and organizing information, genetic genealogy and much more. Little or no experience is necessary, but basic computer skills will be helpful.


Jewish Family History Basics

This 6-week class also covers a range of topics that will help you create an accurate and comprehensive family history. Fundamentals of genealogy will be covered (see Family History Basics), along with unique Jewish records, techniques and cultural keys. Topics will include immigration, Eastern European resources, and holocaust resources. Little or no experience is necessary, but basic computer skills will be very helpful.


Beyond Basics of Genealogy

This 20-hour class will delve deeper into the records, tools and methodology of creating an accurate and comprehensive family history. We’ll explore US sources in more depth, how to more effectively use use online databases, along with other technological tools to make our work easier. Students should first take a basic genealogy class, or have done 1-2 years of family research already.


Using Computers to Find Your Ancestors

Many people are discovering their ancestors with computers, and so can you. This comprehensive class will focus on what records to search, where and how to find them, techniques for research, using genealogy databases that contain billions of records, along with organizing your family history. Basic computer skills required.
